Dr. Bear is chairman of the division of surgical oncology at Virginia Commonwealth University Massey Cancer Center, professor of surgery and of microbiology and immunology at VCU School of Medicine and director of the breast health center at VCU Health System. He is an expert in the treatment of breast, melanoma and gastrointestinal cancers and has played a key role in international studies of breast cancer chemotherapy used prior to surgery.
