Robert Cook-Deegan, MD, is a professor at Arizona State University's School for the Future of Innovation in Society, and Consortium for Science, Policy & Outcomes. He is the founder of the Duke Institute for Genome Sciences & Policy in Durham, N.C. where he served as director from 2002 to 2012, then continued at Duke-in-Washington through 2016. Prior to joining Duke, Dr. Cook-Deegan served at the National Academies of Science, Engineering and Medicine from 1991 through 2002. He also worked at the National Center for Human Genome Research 1989 to 1990 and the congressional Office of Technology Assessment 1982 to 1988. He received his MD from University of Colorado, 1979; and BA in chemistry (magna cum laude), Harvard, 1975. He has served as a researcher in several capacities throughout his career and is the author of over 250 articles and the book The Gene Wars: Science, Politics and the Human Genome.
