Kayla Byrd, RN, OCN
Oncology Breast Nurse Navigator, Baptist Health System
Highlights
- Survivorship Series Program Leader, 2023
- San Antonio, Texas
Kayla began her career as a registered nurse at North Central Baptist Hospital after obtaining her nursing degree from the Baptist Nursing program in 2009. Through the years she took opportunities at The START Center, Cancer Care Centers of South Texas, and Texas Oncology, all serving to extend her scope of knowledge in oncology with a wide range of outpatient care, including infusion, radiation, and leadership positions.
Kayla has been an oncology certified nurse since 2014 and is an active member of AONN+. She has worked in home health and has spent time as a pre-op/recovery nurse. After a short hiatus from oncology, she returned to the infusion department in 2018. It was here where Kayla found her passion for navigating patients through a collaborative effort of private-sector care and focused energy on empowering patients to advocate for themselves through education.
Kayla is passionate about working with women diagnosed with breast cancer, not only to guide them through their treatment journey, but also to help them discover their personal strengths and optimal vision of health as cancer patients. Her role as a navigator allows her to provide one-on-one personalized support to patients and their caregivers throughout their entire cancer journeys.
