Sara Horton, MD, a board-certified medical oncologist, currently holds the position of executive director of access and diversity at Quantum Leap Healthcare, a non-profit organization devoted to supporting breast cancer clinical trials. In addition, she holds an affiliate associate professorship at Howard University Cancer Center and serves as a medical oncologist for the Howard University Cancer Center Transdisciplinary Breast Cancer Clinic.
Throughout her career, Dr. Horton has been dedicated to enhancing cancer outcome disparities and promoting diversity within clinical trials. With a background spanning over 20 years in oncology, encompassing academia, clinical practice, regulatory medicine at the FDA, and advocacy, she has significantly contributed to the field. She has undertaken various leadership roles at Howard University Hospital, including previously serving as chief of hematology and oncology, director of cancer clinical trials, and associate program director of the hematology/oncology fellowship program. Dr. Horton has authored multiple papers focusing on disparities in cancer outcomes among African American patients. During her tenure at the FDA, she functioned as a medical officer responsible for reviewing clinical trials concerning breast cancer therapies, and she co-founded an oncology diversity working group.
Dr. Horton completed her hematology/oncology fellowship at the Georgetown University Lombardi Cancer Center. She resides in Silver Spring, Maryland, alongside her husband, daughter, and two beloved rescue dogs, Pixie and Mia.
