Rey H. (they/them pronouns) was diagnosed with early-stage cancer in 2015 and, later, was diagnosed with metastatic breast cancer in 2022.
They have participated in Living Beyond Breast Cancer’s Hear My Voice advocacy training and National Breast Cancer Coalition’s Project LEAD training, and are particularly interested in science and research design advocacy.
A high school science teacher since 1998, Rey has worked in both public and independent schools. They have also studied meditation and have taught mindfulness to teenagers, trained adults in meditation, and guided adults in teaching mindfulness to kids and teens.
Rey lives in Brooklyn with their spouse and dog. As a queer, nonbinary role model, they are out at work and are passionate about making cancer treatment and support settings more inclusive and competent for transgender and nonbinary individuals.
