Elizabeth S. Ginsburg, MD
Medical Director, Assisted Reproductive Technologies, Brigham and Women’s Hospital
Highlights
- LBBC Medical Advisory Board member
- Groundbreaking researcher in oncofertility
- Dedicated mentor, administrator and educator
Elizabeth S. Ginsburg, MD, is the medical director of the assisted reproductive technologies (ART) program at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston, Mass., and a clinical expert and educator in the field of assisted reproductive technology. She also chairs the ART Ethics Committee, which sets ethical guidelines for advanced fertility interventions.
Early in her career, Dr. Ginsburg consulted at the Dana Farber Cancer Institute, where she became passionate about improving fertility in people with a history of cancer. She became the first to publish on the subject, and established the first organized clinical program to freeze eggs and embryos for women undergoing cancer treatment. She later worked to educate and collaborate with health insurance companies toward covering egg and embryo freezing for women with cancer; most major payers in Massachusetts now cover it. In addition, Dr. Ginsburg developed the only program in Massachusetts for freezing ovarian tissue for children and women with aggressive cancer diagnoses.
As an administrator, educator, and investigator Dr. Ginsburg oversees fellowship training and actively mentors junior faculty, fellows, and residents. Her collective experience, contributions, and leadership in the field of ART led to co-editing a textbook on IVF, and to launching and being co-editor-in-chief of a new journal encompassing ART and reproductive endocrinology. As part of her goal of improving ART around the world, Dr. Ginsburg actively recruits original papers from international authors to encourage them to critically evaluate their practice and outcomes.
Dr. Ginsburg’s research focuses on assisted reproductive technologies, fertility in people with cancer, and menopause.
