Director, Outreach

LBBC is hiring a Director, Outreach who will develop and oversee the organization’s outreach strategy. The ideal candidate will understand breast cancer and the challenges faced by those affected by the disease and will be ready to manage a team of people who execute the organization’s outreach activities.

LBBC is headquartered just outside Philadelphia in Bala Cynwyd, PA and is a hybrid workplace. The position may be fully remote, but candidates must be able to work within normal business hours of 9:00 am to 5:00 pm Eastern Time and be able to travel to our office near Philadelphia as required. Priority will be given to candidates based in the Greater Philadelphia region.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and oversee LBBC’s outreach activities which are key to the organization’s overall success. Programs and activities include: healthcare provider and advocate/volunteer recruitment, training and ongoing engagement, Breast Cancer Helpline, LBBC Fund, Young Women’s Initiative.
  • Oversee the successful execution of a federally funded initiative, including proposal development, program design and execution, and budget tracking.
  • Bring vision and creativity to all outreach programs and activities. Manage a staff of 6 people, including supporting growth and development opportunities.
  • Act as a leader organization-wide, including supporting efforts to report on progress and success in meaningful ways.
  • Establish and cultivate relationships with stakeholders, including leadership volunteers, healthcare providers, and other key individuals to advance organizational goals.
  • Identify ways in which the LBBC outreach efforts can support system change and address known gaps.
  • Promote volunteering (internally and externally) through recruitment strategies and campaigns using e-mail, social media postings, and newsletter.
  • Evaluate the experience and impact of volunteer activities and provide recommendations for innovation.
  • Support ongoing program evaluation and continuous improvement processes across the organization.
  • Provide annual evaluations for program innovation and ways to grow the LBBC footprint
  • Participate in external partnership opportunities and cultivate industry relationships.
  • Represent LBBC publicly and in media engagements.
  • Build and maintain external industry relationships and maintain ongoing knowledge of industry trends and needs.

Key Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field, master’s degree preferred
  • 8 years of experience, including a minimum of 5 years of experience in a leadership role. Background in a health-related field, volunteer management, and/or experience in breast or oncology is strongly desired
  • Strong self-motivation and strategic thinking skills; solution focused and goal oriented with the ability to lead teams in shared goals
  • Strong people and project leadership skills
  • Understanding of health equity issues and trends in the breast cancer space
  • Experience coaching staff and creating staff development plans
  • Excellent communication, follow-up, project management and organizational skills
  • Ability to collaborate effectively and build organizational systems; creativity and openness to innovation
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, project management software (Basecamp preferred), and use of relational databases
  • Ability to manage competing priorities while maintaining a positive working environment
  • Comfort with public speaking and social media
  • Knowledge of virtual platforms like Zoom, Microsoft Teams, YouTube
  • Ability and willingness to work flexible hours, including some evenings and weekends
  • Domestic travel may be required

Salary Range and Benefits


Salary range begins at $90,000 per year. LBBC offers a comprehensive benefits package including health insurance, 401(k), and paid time off.
