Dr. Lichtenthal’s research has focused on meaning-making, fear of recurrence, and intervention development in the cancer setting for patients and their family members, with a focus on breast cancer and loss. Her research has been supported by the National Institutes of Health, the American Cancer Society, the T.J. Martell Foundation, and Cycle for Survival.

Dr. Lichtenthal was the recipient of the Kawano New Investigator Award from the International Psycho-Oncology Society in 2012 and the Research Recognition Award from the Association for Death Education and Counseling in 2019. As a licensed clinical psychologist, her practice focuses on helping breast cancer patients and their families cope and find meaning in the face of adversity.
