Mandi L. Pratt-Chapman, PhD

As a cancer researcher who focuses on social needs for cancer patients and access-to-care challenges, Dr. Pratt-Chapman is on a mission to make evidence-based health care and disease prevention strategies available to more people as quickly as possible. Her research focuses on patient navigation, cancer survivorship, evidence-based cancer control, and health equity for intersectional lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer and intersex (LGBTQ+) communities.

Her past research has addressed clinical guideline development and workforce capacity to advance patient-centered care and health equity. She led the development of national, consensus-based core competencies for Oncology Patient Navigators that serve as the foundation of a free training that has been internationally accessed by more than 6,000 learners. She chaired a task force for the Academy of Oncology Nurse & Patient Navigators to initiate a certification process for Oncology Patient Navigators in 2016 (OPN-CG). Additionally, she served as co-PI for the National Cancer Survivorship Resource Center and has co-authored four holistic clinical practice guidelines on breast, prostate, colorectal, and head and neck cancer survivorship care. She has also served as PI and co-PI for four Patient Centered Outcomes Research Institute-funded projects to inform health services standards for cancer survivorship and catalyze dissemination and implementation of evidence-based cancer survivorship and patient navigation practices. . She is currently MPI of a U58 award systematizing social risk factor screening across five cancer centers and providing enhanced support to cancer survivors through a novel community health worker intervention in the Washington, DC region.

Dr. Pratt-Chapman provides technical assistance and training on evidence-based cancer control strategies and health equity nationally to U.S. states, tribes, and territories. Eleven years of continuous funding from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the Patient Centered Outcomes Research Institute has supported this work.

In addition to her role at GW, Dr. Pratt-Chapman is also the founder of the organization Radical Inclusivity, which supports diversity, equity, inclusion, and healing to reduce polarization and foster inclusive perspectives to solve challenging social problems.
