Sameer A. Patel, MD, FACS, is the Chief of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at the Lewis Katz School of Medicine/Temple University Hospital and Fox Chase Cancer Center in Philadelphia. He is also the Program Director of the Plastic Surgery Residency Program.
Certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery, Dr. Patel’s expertise is in microsurgery and breast cancer reconstruction. Before deciding to enter the field of plastic surgery, Dr. Patel knew he wanted to specialize in reconstruction. He chose this specialty to improve quality of life for patients by helping to restore appearance and function after cancer treatment.
In addition to performing surgery, Dr. Patel studies surgical outcomes of head and neck cancer patients to find new ways of maximizing function and improving appearance, including the use of advanced computer-aided, patient-specific surgical planning techniques. He also gathers research data on breast reconstruction procedures to determine which options may be best for different types of patients.
In recognition of his contributions to advancing the science and art of plastic surgery through education, research, scientific presentations, and professional interactions, Dr. Patel was inducted into the prestigious American Association of Plastic Surgeons (AAPS) in 2022.
Dr. Patel is a member of the National Comprehensive Cancer Network, the American Society of Reconstructive Microsurgery, and the IVY Society of Pennsylvania. He has also been named a Top Doctor by Philadelphia magazine and America’s Top Doctors.
After I’ve taken a patient through the journey of cancer and reconstruction, it is very gratifying and rewarding for me to see them back to their normal life.
