Dr. Petersen is director of the Breast Surgery Clinic Program at St. Barnabas Hospital in the Bronx, NY. He is the co-founder and managing partner of Global Cancer Control, an international organization whose mission is to reduce cancer incidence and mortality in developing nations.
He co-founded the Charlotte Kimelman Cancer Institute, the first regionally-based comprehensive cancer center in the Caribbean, on his native island of St. Thomas. He is also the medical director of Dorcas Medical Missionary Ministry, a faith-based organization that provides medical, surgical, dental and vision care to the poor in Africa, the Caribbean and Latin America. Dr. Petersen is deeply committed to eliminating racial disparities in cancer through educating minority women about the importance of early detection and prevention of breast cancer.
